Mat-Su House Republicans Praise Governor-Elect Dunleavy’s Pick for DOT Commissioner
Caucus ready to work with John MacKinnon
Wednesday, November 21, 2018, Wasilla, Alaska – Members of the incoming Alaska House Republican Majority are praising Governor-elect Mike Dunleavy’s choice of John MacKinnon as the new Commissioner of the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities. MacKinnon brings decades of private and public sector experience to the department that manages the state’s roads, ports, harbors, airports and public buildings.
Today’s announcement was made in Wasilla at the Alaska Railroad Depot.
“John is well known among legislators for his leadership abilities and institutional knowledge of the department,” said Rep. Cathy Tilton (R-Wasilla). “This selection represents the Dunleavy administration’s commitment to critical and life-saving maintenance and upgrades so important throughout Alaska.”
“John MacKinnon understands the urgency of making roads like Knik Goose Bay and the Parks Highway safer,” said Rep. Mark Neuman (R-Big Lake). “Our constituents can count on him to get the job done.”
Rep. Colleen Sullivan-Leonard (R-Wasilla) said, “MacKinnon has demonstrated throughout his career that he understands the necessity to "Build Alaska", create jobs, and the need for ports, bridges and expanded infrastructure. John’s background in the private sector as a construction owner, AGC director and in the public sector as DOT Deputy Commissioner and in local government gives him a great background to lead the DOT/PF division of the state.”
MacKinnon will serve as acting commissioner until a confirmation vote is held during the next legislative session.
