Providing Alaskans with More Oral Testimony Opportunities

Legislation changing the Alaska Administrative Procedure Policy

Thursday, March 23, 2017, Juneau, Alaska –Every Alaskan deserves the opportunity to be heard on state issues. Representative David Talerico (R-Healy) has introduced a bill allowing oral testimony at a person’s request.

“If an Alaskan takes the time asking to be heard then state agencies and boards should take the time to listen,” says Rep. Talerico. “Government should take every opportunity to listen to the people.”

Currently, state agencies and boards are required to give notice about regulation changes but they are not required to listen to oral testimony. Often times only written testimony will be accepted.

HB190 would change the Administrative Procedure Act to allow oral testimony, when requested, before regulations are changed.

The bill has been referred to State Affairs committee.
